All of these small paintings were painted by me 'on the spot' usually taking about three hours. although it is so easy to lose track of time with total absorbtion in the subject. I will try to find a photo of me painting...but I am often on my own, woolly hat and old coat, thick socks and mittens. The main thing for me is to find somewhere comfortable, if possible out of wind and weather. I first carefully draw what I see as I need to understand the topography of the subject before enjoying the colours and textures and the specialness of the place.
I think it strange that in this state of absorbtion I am still happy to talk to passers by and pet a dog..as long as it doesnt spray sand all over the painting...and yes, it has happened. A midge also landed on a recent painting, luckily on the sky, and looked rather like a bird in flight....you may still find traces of it (a 5% discount on the print if you find it!)
